A regal and timeless hair & makeup bridal collection that will enamour brides-to-be from across the country
Quintessential was showcased at FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week
National, 23 March 2022: Lakmé Salon, India’s leading salon chain, launched a timeless and regal bridal hair and makeup collection, Quintessential, which exuded impeccable craftsmanship, in collaboration with renowned designer Varun Bahl Couture at FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week. Quintessential is an ode to the change-making Indian queens of history and celebrates the aspirational milestone in an Indian woman’s life, her wedding, when she deserves to look and feel like a queen. The hair and makeup looks draw inspiration from our timeless and glamorous heritage, and age-old beauty traditions, presented in a customised, contemporary format for the queens of today. The show also marked the debut of Masoom Minawala, a global fashion icon, on the Indian runway as the showstopper.
This new hair and makeup collection beautifully complements Varun’s Bahl’s stunning outfits of upcycled embroidery and delicate silhouettes. Using abstraction and juxtaposition, Bahl expresses himself through design. His collection is about curvilinear lines and forms with a vivid explosion of colour and the softness of delicate shapes and layers. The pieces have been made by using the amalgamation of both traditional and modern designs.
Quintessential is also a celebration of the return of the grand, extravagant Indian wedding, after two subdued and challenging years. A wedding, especially in India, is so much more than the union of two people. It’s about two families, often two cultures, and many friends and loved ones coming together in celebration. An Indian wedding is surrounded by so much anticipation and excitement that it has become one of the most aspired-to events in one’s life. Especially for a woman, a queen. And Lakmé Salon is the queen’s trusted ally for all her pre-bridal rituals, through her various wedding functions and for up to a year after her wedding, as she steps into the many new roles she dons.
The Lakmé Salon trendsetting and iconic bridal hair and makeup collection, created and curated by the team of Backstage Heroes at Lakmé Salon & Academy, introduced a plethora of looks for various wedding functions and festivities. The hair collection embodied chic, sophisticated and versatile Hollywood waves; textured hair with movement in the hair; embellished buns; beach waves; and peeled out braids. The makeup collection personifies the strong character of Indian queens, showcased through royal, bold pops of colours and glitter; reversed eyeliners and smokey eyes; expressive and elaborated eyes redefining the royal style in the modern period.
Commenting on the collaboration, Pushkaraj Shenai, CEO and Executive Director, Lakmé Lever said, “Lakmé Salon has been the trusted ally of Indian brides, setting trends for and with them, for over 40 years – from the run up to her wedding, the series of bridal events, and the runway of life from the wedding. This year, we have a compelling portfolio of prep-style-finish offerings to delight our brides-to-be. We have launched Lakmé Salon Pro Beauty Sutra, a collection of facial, hair, hands and feet, and body rituals to prep and style the bride for some of the most memorable days of her life. We are excited to launch Quintessential – an array of timeless looks inspired by iconic queens of India for all the wedding functions for the queens of today. Varun Bahl was the perfect designer to collaborate with for this collection – he has married timeless and contemporary, elaborate and simple with aplomb. Every look in Quintessential has been carefully curated by the National Creative Directors and the Backstage Heroes at Lakmé Salon & Academy to complement Varun’s exotic and luminous creations.”
Anupma Katyal, National Creative Director – Makeup, Lakmé Salon, added,“The looks we created for Quintessential are specifically curated for the queens of today. These looks will set the tone for the upcoming bridal seasons with bright colours, glitter eyes, reversed liner and smokey eyes, and a range of nude to bold lip stains, redefining timeless royal looks for the modern era. Varun’s quirky and unconventional designs brought our makeup looks alive.”
Pooja Singh, National Creative Director – Hair, Lakmé Salon, added,“Quintessential is our ode to history’s trailblazing Indian queens. From classic Hollywood waves to textured, fluid hair; from embellished bun to beach waves and peeled out braids, we have created looks for every kind of bride. The hairstyles have been carefully crafted by our team of Lakmé Salon Backstage Experts, with intricacies like weaves in a bun and partially-tied, textured half ponytails. Each look marries royal elegance with modernity, and is easily adaptable from the runway to reality. Varun’s opulent yet quirky styles and vision aligned with ours seamlessly, and we can’t wait to see our salon customers experiment with these looks.”
Speaking of the collaboration, designer Varun Bahl said, “I needed a certain aesthetic for the hair and makeup for my collection and Lakmé Salon’s vision matched mine beautifully. Working with the Lakmé Salon backstage team on hair and makeup was a dream. Creatively, we were on the same page from day one, and they have crafted some stunning looks that only exalted my collection. I’m sure consumers will love these looks they have put together and I’m excited to see how our collaboration evolves.”
Quintessential will be available at Lakmé Salon and Varun Bahl Couture.
