
Jio Studios’ Marathi film ‘Godavari’ has been selected as the opening film in the prestigious New York Indian Film Festival 2022 (NYIFF). On this special occasion, the movie ‘Godavari’ is being formally announced through social media.
Produced by Blue Drop Films and Jitendra Joshi Pictures, the film stars Jitendra Joshi, Vikram Gokhale, Nina Kulkarni, Sanjay Mone and Priyadarshan Jadhav in Marathi cinema. The film is directed by Nikhil Mahajan.
Nikhil Mahajan says about ‘Godavari’, “I am very happy that ‘Godavari’ has been selected as the opening film in the New York Film Festival. We have made this film with a very positive intention. The movie was shot in just 16 days during the epidemic. I am so grateful to Geo Studios for believing in me and my work. The selection of ‘Godavari’ in the film festival is an inspiration for my next work.
‘Godavari’ is the story of Nishikant, who is away from his family. He comes home to find things that don’t exist and to improve a relationship that has never been broken. He will find answers to the complex questions of his life and family near ‘that’ river, the river which he hated for so many years.
Representing the best Marathi arthouse cinema, this film won in Iffi 2021. Jitendra Joshi won the Silver Peacock Award for Best Actor while Nikhil Mahajan won the Special Jury Award for Best Director. Godavari was also honored with many awards at the Pune International Film Festival 2022. Nikhil Mahajan was awarded Best Director and Best Photographer Shameen Kulkarni. AV Prafulla Chandra won the Special Jury Best Music Award. The film had its world premiere at the Vancouver International Film Festival 2021 and its Asia Pacific premiere at the New Zealand International Film Festival 2021.
With ‘Godavari’, Jio Studios is equipped with a wealth of entertainment with quality content. On April 1, Geo Studios’ first Marathi film ‘Mee Vasantrao’, a biography of a music legend, will be released.
