RAP ROYALTY DEE MC TALKS SELF-LOVE AND DATING IN THIS SIT-DOWN CONVERSATION

Newest track Swipe Right Material featuring Guru Randhawa and Anirudh Ravichander out now

At a time where rap music is at its prime in the Indian music industry, you can only name a few female rap artists making a mark. But even with limited female representation in the rap scene, the artists that are popular are doing enough – empowering a generation of female artists in the future. Deepa Unnikrishnan aka Dee MC is one of the most talked about female rap musicians in the country – known to use the language of music to tell real, authentic stories that have moved audiences for years now.

Talking about storytelling, Dee MC is back with another foot-tapping tune in collaboration with diverse and powerhouse artists such as Guru Randhawa and Anirudh Ravichander called Swipe Right Material. The track that was already trending in the top 10 spot on Twitter on the day of the launch is an ode to being yourself and celebrating diversity and urges Gen Z to be their unique self, embrace their quirks unapologetically and wear their heart on their sleeve.

As we sit down with Dee MC herself, the artist talks about finding self-love above everything, dating and everything in between.

  1. What does Swipe Right Material mean to? Are there any nuances that you wish to highlight from this new track?

It’s all about self-confidence for me. It is about being comfortable in your own skin and having a positive self-belief which is what it takes to be a swipe right material! I think when you’re self-confident, you vibrate on a certain frequency and are bound to attract people with similar energy. The new song for me is about bringing together like-minded people, encouraging a safe space for people to connect and forming new bonds.

  1. What would you say to all the aspiring musicians in the rap industry across India?

Well, you should know what you’re getting into. Focus on self-improvement and don’t compare yourself to anyone. If you are really passionate about this, you’ll develop a discipline for it. If you do this for attention or to be famous, you might quit as hastily as you began. So, keep it real!

3.The best advice that you have for the young women in India when it comes to dating? Any tips and tricks that can help people?

I’m not really a dating expert but all I can say is – what works for me is having open and honest communication. That’s key in every stage of the relationship. Know what you want and be vocal about it. Nobody is a mind reader. And an advice and a thumb rule for all young women out there – when it comes to dating, never ever compromise on your own values in order to feel accepted by someone. Retain your individuality in every relationship, that way you will never fully lose yourself in someone or something to such an extent that you forget who YOU are.

4.If you were on a dating app like Tinder, what would your bio say?

I think the answer is simple – Self-work in progress, tread lightly.

5.Meeting in real life or virtual dates – Which one? Tell us your ideal first date.

Definitely in real life! My idea on an ideal first date is something low-key like a coffee shop date ending with a long walk and lots of talking.

6.And lastly, any love life goals for 2022.

Slow is fast for me. Know what you want and communicate that. Live in the moment and cherish everything like there’s no tomorrow.
