“Every failure has been a lesson in disguise, shaping me into the resilient, resourceful professional I am now”… Ria Jain | Interview with Perfect Woman Magazine

Ria Jain’s career journey is one of passion and perseverance. Armed with degrees in English, Mass Communication, and a PGDBA in HR from Symbiosis, Pune, she returned to her professional path after 15 years, earning a Master’s in English. Her love for storytelling and helping children find their way led her to become a certified Study Abroad and Career Counselor. As a mother guiding her 11th grader toward studying abroad, Ria combines her personal experience and professional know-how to help students build successful futures.

Your Journey
My journey began with a quest to fulfil my daughter’s dream of studying abroad. From not knowing where to begin to certifying myself as a professional, it’s been an eye-opening pursuit. The complete process of attaining admission in your dream university abroad is simple yet long and complex. It’s common knowledge that ‘Videsh mein padhna to bohot mehenga aur mushkil hai.’ But, such is not the case. We do have many options. So, I’ve dedicated myself to helping students navigate their paths to global education.

What is your definition of success?
Success, to me, is witnessing the students I counsel not only achieve their academic goals but also thrive personally and culturally. It’s about them finding their place in a new environment and becoming well-rounded individuals. Every time a student shares their accomplishments or thanks me for my guidance, I know I’ve succeeded in my role.

What role has failure played in your journey to success?
Failure has been my greatest mentor. The disappointment of losing a client didn’t just sting—it sparked a drive within me to sharpen my skills and become better at what I do. And when leads seemed impossible to come by, failure whispered a challenge, urging me to rethink and revamp my marketing strategies. Every failure has been a lesson in disguise, shaping me into the resilient, resourceful professional I am now.

How did you overcome challenges or setbacks along the way?
I tackled challenges with my daily dose of success: a blend of persistence, positivity, upskilling, and networking. Every morning, I made sure to “sip” on these essentials, and they fuelled my journey forward.

Are there any funny or memorable moments on your journey to success that you can share?
Ofcourse! One of my most unforgettable moments was when a lost student, burdened by a long academic gap due to health issues, came to me for career counselling. In just 10 minutes, she opened up and spoke for two hours straight. The relief and renewed light in her eyes were absolutely priceless.

What are your thoughts on work/life balance?
For me, work/life balance is non-negotiable. Starting my own business was a conscious choice to be more present with my teenager. My day begins with meditation, exercise, and pooja, rituals that keep me grounded and embody the balance I advocate as a counselor.

What are your top five goals for the next five years?
In the next five years, I plan to globalize my business, forge ties with international universities, explore the world, master three new skills, and deepen my meditation practice

What advice would you give to someone starting their own journey to success?
A wise man/woman plants trees under whose shade he/she knows he/she will never sit—build your path with vision and patience.
