What is your definition of success?

To me, success means creating real change and witnessing the positive outcomes of our efforts, whether it is through bringing joy, hope, or relief to those in need. It involves overcoming challenges with resilience, staying true to our values, and continuously striving to improve the lives of others. Ultimately, success is measured by the lasting impact of our compassion and the positive legacy we leave behind.

What role has failure played in your journey to success?

Failures and setbacks have been integral to my journey toward success. They have often served as powerful motivators, pushing me to work harder and overcome obstacles that stand in my way. I always believe that if we do not celebrate all our successes, why should we mourn all our failures. Failure is nothing but an opportunity—a second chance to improve and achieve our goals more effectively.

How did you overcome challenges or setbacks along the way?

Transitioning from a well-established career in academics and research to a completely new sector presented numerous setbacks. Learning everything anew was daunting, but I embraced it as an opportunity for personal growth. My primary mentors became time and patience, as I navigated the unfamiliar territory. Despite facing fears and doubts, I remained steadfast in my decision and refused to dwell on the past. Instead, I focused on moving forward with conviction, driven by the resolve to make a difference. The vision of transforming tears into smiles fueled my motivation, guiding me through each challenge and reinforcing my commitment to the cause.

What are your thoughts on work/life balance?

Balancing work and life is a continuous journey, especially when your work is driven by passion and a commitment to making a difference. My experiences have taught me that while dedication to your cause is crucial, it is equally important to carve out time for personal well-being and reflection. Work can be all-consuming, especially in the non-profit sector, but maintaining a balance is key to sustaining long-term impact. I try to ensure that I make time for activities that rejuvenate me, whether it is spending time with family, pursuing hobbies, or simply taking a moment to reflect. This balance not only enhances my well-being but also strengthens my ability to lead effectively and make thoughtful decisions.

Any messages/ advice for readers?

For anyone seeking to make a meaningful impact, my advice would be to embrace both compassion and courage. Find a cause that resonates deeply with you, and then channel your passion into action. Do not be afraid to step outside of traditional paths or to take on new challenges. Trust your instincts, draw on your unique skills, and contribute in a way that feels authentic to you. Remember, every small step counts, and even the smallest act of kindness can create a ripple effect, bringing about positive change in the lives of others. And as my personal mantra goes: “Follow your heart but remember to take your brain with it.”
