Definition of success:
Success for a woman can encompass a range of achievements and personal growth. It can mean reaching professional milestones, like career advancement or business ownership, while also maintaining a balanced personal life. Success often involves breaking through barriers and challenging societal norms. It includes cultivating meaningful relationships, achieving financial independence, and contributing positively to family and community. A successful woman may find fulfilment in pursuing her passions, empowering others, and making a positive impact on society. Ultimately, success is about realizing one’s potential, finding joy in the journey, and creating a life that aligns with personal values and goals
Earlier days of life and role of failure played in my journey to success:
I grew up in a middle-class family and attended Savithri Vidya Sala Higher Secondary School in Trichirapalli. My goal was to study medicine, and I was among the top students, earning the title of Best Outgoing Student and serving as school captain. I took part in various competitions and worked hard to achieve my dreams.
Two months before my 12th-grade exams, my father passed away suddenly, leaving me devastated. I stopped attending school and felt unprepared for the upcoming exams. Even though, I managed to score 92%, but it wasn’t enough to get into medical school. I decided to pursue engineering and enrolled at Sastra University in Thanjavur. After graduating, I joined Scope International Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank, where my dedication helped me advance quickly. Then life threw me a curveball. While I was about to become a Team Lead, I experienced an ectopic pregnancy requiring emergency surgery due to fallopian tube burst – last minute fatal call, which resulted in severe health issues. This forced me to leave my corporate job. Thanks to the support of my husband and family, I overcame these challenges and eventually became a mother. While motherhood is a wonderful gift, the journey to get there was like fighting a battle.
And my husband being a Marine engineer, and I had our son, and left my job to take care of him. I decided to start a business, so began reselling artificial jewellery with no initial investment, and it went well. I regained my financial independence and confidence. However, health issues arose due to the side effects of medication I took during ectopic pregnancy, forcing me to hand over the business to a partner and focus on my recovery. It took me three years to regain my physical and mental health.
During this break, the reselling industry underwent significant changes, so I considered starting a different business. When my son developed dark marks from mosquito bites, I used a herbal leaf extract on him, and after three days, the marks disappeared. Amazed by the herb’s benefits, I decided to make herbal soap for my son because collecting the extract was tedious. This led to the idea of starting a herbal brand, and after taking several courses and finished my MBA in Symbiosis, Pune; I found my own brand ‘YOURZ CHOIZE HERBALS” , offering nearly 100 natural products free from harmful chemicals, SLS, and parabens.
I am now the founder and owner of a successful herbal beauty brand. My journey has taught me that life brings unexpected twists, but you should never give up. Be patient, face challenges head-on, and eventually, you’ll find yourself in a better place than you ever imagined.
Thoughts on work life balance: Work-life balance for a woman means managing job responsibilities while still having time for personal life, family, and hobbies. It involves creating a schedule that allows for both career success and personal happiness, without feeling overwhelmed or sacrificing one for the other. It’s about setting boundaries, prioritizing self-care, and having the flexibility to enjoy life outside of work.
To overcome challenges and setbacks: To overcome challenges and setbacks as a businesswoman, maintain resilience and a positive mindset. Learn from setbacks, turning them into lessons to refine your strategy. Build a strong support network of mentors, colleagues, and advisors for guidance and feedback. Adapt to changing circumstances and embrace innovation to stay competitive. Focus on solutions rather than dwelling on problems, and break down large challenges into manageable tasks. Prioritize work-life balance and self-care to ensure you’re at your best. Effective communication with your team and stakeholders is crucial. Celebrate small wins to stay motivated and use each challenge as an opportunity for growth.
