Costume designer Niharika Bhasin has revealed that actor Imran Khan wore unwashed, horrible smelling shirts for his 2011 adult comedy Delhi Belly. In the film, produced by Aamir Khan, Imran co-starred with Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapur.

Niharika said for Delhi Belly, which is a three-day film, she had “aged” everything. In the latest episode of Crew Cut, Niharika was in conversation with Vidya Balan as she spilled the beans on how she achieved the ‘look’ of Delhi Belly.

“The characters are running through the streets, they get cement on them, they are slimy, they are in Delhi, in summer, in Chandni Chowk. There are things I had done with the clothes, so I couldn’t wash them. So, every day he would be like, ‘Can someone please perfume the shirt please.’ It was horrible, but he did it and I really love him for it,” she said.

In her other project, Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Sanya Malhotra starrer Photograph, Niharika said the actor wore the slipper of a street vendor throughout. In the 2019 romantic drama, Nawazuddin played a street photographer.

“Nawaz was in the film. I had worked with him in The Lunchbox. I literally took the slippers of a street vendor and requested him, ‘Please bhaiyaa ye de do, main aapko naya de deti hu (Please give me your slippers, I will give you a new one)’ We got him shoes. I took those to Nawaz for the look test and told him this is what it would look like when I age it, I just want to show you. But he said he would wear those! We cleaned it, sprayed it, and he wore it through the film,” she added.
