She talks about her journey in the dance field that has its roots in Tamil Nadu & Andhra Pradesh.

“In the 1980s, when I was learning this Art from Bharatanatyam,  there were hardly any Teachers in Mumbai.

By learning this dance form, it has given me an opportunity to understand the intricacies of this Art-Language, Our Culture and the depth to which extent it has been rooted” says…

But in those days we never had such good exposure as we have in today’s advanced digital world.

It has helped me, as a non-Telugu and a non-Tamilian to perform and spread BHARATHANATYAM & KUCHIPUDI for over more than 2 decades.

An Award brings with it an enormous responsibility to further explore this art form.

“Whenever I receive an award, I get into an introspective mood. I try to understand whether it is hard work, creativity, authenticity, or commitment that has been Rewarded. It enables me to set new targets for myself” she says.

Subitha is one of those dancers who has moved with the times. It is necessary for the Dance Gurus, to evolve with the changing time and needs.

Elaborating a ‘Change’ she says, “ after all, what is Parampara? Is it creating identical copies of what already exists?

Parampara means to have deep ties with one’s tradition and at the related to the current generation. Only then a dance form live, evolve and thrive”.

A learner of dance should always remember that the cosmos gives the knowledge unless, if only one is dedicated enough to acquire it. She advises promising performing artists to look ahead of time. However, to young aspirants, she has to say…..

“Only an Art can give you a divine energy with a positive essence in life”.

Those excellent gurus became great only because they broke certain existing norms without deviating from the principles of NatyaShastra. As a teacher, I wish to do that and attempt to establish the Guru Shisyaparamparaamd set an example for the upcoming generations.

Though sometimes it seems difficult for her to implement suggestions given by her disciples, She makes it a point to listen to them with patience(without prejudice). This gives a good report on a Guru Shishya relationship. She even counsels them in their psychological state of mind while they enter into their teens. Help them in different ways to control their mind. Develop their personality, take challenges and be confident in whatever they choose.

I also would like to give a message to this generation, who are apeing behind the western styles, that first respect your own culture& heritage,i.e our classical dance & music then you can absorb any other styles.  love your own mother, your motherland…be proud of your country.

One of the main aims of my school is to make classical dance accessible to people despite any caste and religion….as we believe in ‘ VASUDAIVAKUTUMBAM’…THE WORLD ONE FAMILY

‘JAI MAA BHARATI’JAI HIND…..
